Memes and Talking Points for Standing up against Climate Change [updated]

Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 03:40:01 PM PDT

A great discussion has just formed over at the excellent diary, Stand Up, which concludes,

It will not be enough at this point to call for decreased use of gasoline, if that call does not come without serious action.  It will not be enough to call for decrease in CO2, if that doesn't mean mandatory (and ever tightening) limits.   It will not be enough to call for new sources of energy, if the first call isn't to simply using less energy through conservation.

Mention switchgrass and coal to liquids and ethanol all you want.  Talk up research.  Sing the praises of hydrogen.  We're past that.  Stand up, or get out of the way.

So in an effort to better equip ourselves, and those of us who have some time in the media spotlight to draw attention to necessary action against climate change, I am going to keep this diary updated on the best memes and talking points to use in the fight against ignorance.

On Top of the Democratic Agenda for the Next Two years

Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 04:15:10 PM PDT

In order to restore confidence and accountability in the union, we need to introduce a concise and specific resolution calling for the censure of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Debunking climate change and national security myths [updated]

Tue Oct 10, 2006 at 08:31:57 AM PDT

After reading the excellent diary, It's official: climate change changes everything, I'd like to share an article I wrote this summer which was originally published in early July on the alt/progressive website gnn.tv. It was edited collaboratively by a core group of members from the fantastic community there.

There had been, upon cursory research, no direct web response that I could find to the neo-conservative punditry claims that there was a fundamental scientific debate surrounding the effects and, most importantly, causes of modern climate change.

I spent an afternoon researching the sources of the quotes used by an anti-climate change activist, Tom Harris, in an article he wrote that had been buzzing around the right wing blogosphere since Al Gore's fantastic film, An Inconvenient Truth was released.

My article sparked one of the most active threads on the site at the time, and I hope a similar dialogue might be achieved here on DailyKos as well.

Enjoy the full article, an interesting poll, and discussion in the comments section below the fold. Thanks for helping spread the word. M.

What if Neo-Conservative Republicans want to lose the House and Senate?

Thu Oct 05, 2006 at 03:50:29 PM PDT

Do the Neo-Conservatives, who have unfortunately demonstrated how far they are willing to go to seize and maintain power, have the audacity to sit on the Foleygate as a red herring for their own latent advantage?

Wether or not the Bush administration had advanced knowledge of 9-11, wether or not Cheney was running wargames simulating the events of september 11th on the morning of 9-11 (which allowed them to happen, due to a complete lack of fighter cover), there is a chance that they wanted Foleygate to happen just now.

Follow me down the rabbit hole below the fold, and decide for yourself.
